“Where to Photograph Wildlife Locally”
by Dave Jacobson

A teacher at Prospect High School for 30 years, Dave Jacobson entered a second career as a photographer after retiring from public education in 2014.  He started working as a photographer at high school events in the Northwest Suburbs through Visual Image Photography.  At the same time he began shooting landscape and travel photography, but when travel became difficult during the pandemic, wildlife photography became his primary focus.  As he visited local forest preserves and nature centers, he developed an interest in birds and other wildlife.  A volunteer at the Buddy Foundation several days a week, Dave also photographs new dogs and cats for the Foundation’s adoption website. His work has been published in the Cook County Forest Preserve calendar, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park Calendar, and the Daily Herald.

Join us (and bring a friend) as Dave shares his favorite wildlife locations and offers tips on photographing the wildlife of northeastern Illinois…with a few bonus wildlife areas included.

Mike Wardynski is a professional photographer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is on the forefront of landscape photography, specializing in premium large format prints, photography workshops and image licensing. Rooted in nature, he finds that through landscape photography he has been able to bring the joy of the natural world to the walls of homes and offices around the world.

With a deep connection to nature, the work of Mike Wardynski brings us all a little closer to our roots. His immersive nature photographs have placed him on the forefront of landscape photography where he has gained the attention of avid art collectors. Mike is best known for his intricate textures and peaceful landscapes that are minimal in nature.

Mike’s work has been featured in high-end publications such as “Design Milk” and “Focus on the Story.” He is a masterful teacher with deep respect for his practice and the land.

With two decades of experience, Mike has honed his craft for photography and printmaking. Today, his photographs are collected around the world. His work has been on display along the prestigious Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico and can often be seen at the most renowned art shows in the U.S.

Mike goes to great lengths in order to get the shot. He will trek through unforgiving terrain in unpleasant conditions in order to find the perfect composition. His attention to detail shines through when one views his large format photographs in person.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Nature is at the heart of my work. Not only because it is often my subject, but because it is where I find inspiration. Human beings are spiritually connected to the planet as a whole. Interconnectivity is where the spirit thrives. Through photography, I remind the viewer of their connection to earth. We do not own the planet; we are part of it. It is our responsibility to protect as well as enjoy our environment because it is an extension of ourselves. One cannot harm the environment without harming themselves, just as one cannot heal the environment without healing themselves.

Making Better Pictures and How to Judge Them
by Bob Benson

Please join the Arlington Camera Club for a presentation by Bob Benson

Bob Benson, FPSA EPSA, has held various positions with the Photographic Society of America, including a four year term as Divisions Vice President. Previously, he started the Interclub Competition for the older Electronic Imaging Division, then later, started the Interclub Competition for PID. Besides some other PSA related activities, he wrote an ongoing column for the Journal on Lightroom®. Currently he serves as the Ethics Review Advisor. Since online judging has become common, he judges for international exhibitions and clubs in other areas.

At the local level, he has been on the Board for the Chicago Area Camera Clubs Association since 2001, serving in many capacities, including President. He judges and presents at local clubs and for seminars on a regular basis, providing education programs and training for new judges. Through CACCA, he has earned major awards, including the Wanda Christl Award (photography excellence), the Stinson Award (volunteerism), and the Creativity Award.  Benson holds a TOPS in color, mono, and creative prints.

“My biggest passion is prints and printing; there is nothing like seeing a well-crafted print. Back in the darkroom days, I was never satisfied with my B&W prints. Digital has changed all that, allowing the control I never was able to achieve before. Landscapes are my preference, but I am willing to try anything, as I see that as the best way to learn.”

Please plan to attend and bring a guest to this special event.
